“Roxanne, Roxanne” Draws Critical Acclaim and Sells For $3 Million

(AllHipHop News) The bio-pic about Queens Hip-Hop legend Roxanne Shanté was the subject of a massive bidding war during the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend.

According to Deadline, Amazon, Miramax and Lionsgate were in a fierce bidding war for “Roxanne, Roxanne,” which was eventually acquired by Neon Films for $3,000,000.

“Roxanne, Roxanne” centers around the early career of Roxanne Shanté, born Lolita Gooden.

The Queensbridge rapper was part of the Juice Crew and she’s best remembered for her part classic records produced b the “Roxanne Wars” of the 1980s involving The Real Roxanne.

“Roxanne, Roxanne” stars Nia Long, Mahershala Ali, and newcomer Chanté Adams, who is drawing rave reviews for her performance in the film.

“Roxanne, Roxanne” was directed by Michael Larnell, and was produced by Forest Whitaker and Pharrell Williams.

The movie is due to be released sometime in 2017.
